Home again

This is where we've been over the past week. We had a wonderful time at Merimbula, a beach town on the South coast of New South Wales. The weather was beautiful most of the time although we did have the odd shower.
The house was right on the beach, you walk through the back gate of the property and you are on the sand dunes. The views from the top floor were fabulous looking right across the ocean. The migrating whales put on a display for us each day.

The front of the house.

The back of the house with a deck overlooking the ocean.

You can just see my portable studio in the corner, I took away my sewing machine, jewellery gear and paints.
I finished off a necklace that I'll be teaching in a workshop next month and almost completed another journal, so it was worth the hassle and complaints from dear hubby when we loaded the car.
He took his computer so he couldn't say too much. We didn't have access to the internet in the house resulting in a very quiet cyber week.
We have a two door Toyota Rav 4 with removable back seats, so that helps. I think I stretched the friendship slightly though, when I bought a beautiful pot of crucifix orchids. I almost had to nurse it all the way home, a six and a half hour drive, fortunately I managed to squeeze it into the back.

An overall view of the top floor.

A whale jumping out of the water, they make such a huge splash as they hit the water with their tail.

After one of the showers my husband took this panorama photo of a double rainbow. They were both complete which you don't see too often.

Two very cheeky lorikeets visited constantly. My husband ended up being able to feed them by hand.
They even ate his toast with marmalade on it one morning.
They have such beautiful colours, showing what mother nature can really do.

The above photos are views over the lake and township. I love the reflection of the clouds in the water.

Finally a collection of photos I intend to use in my art, I love the simplicity and faded colours of things that usually get taken for granted.

I'll have some photos of my jewellery and journal pages in the next post.

Thank you, Ro, for sharing your vacation and your part of the world. I've never seen a double rainbow or a Lorikeet! Sounds as though you had a wonderful, relaxing time. Welcome home! Hugs, Terri

Wow, what a beautiful set of pictures, and what an incredible place! It's the kind of thing people in the UK (well me anyway!) dream of! Thanks for sharing this, I really enjoyed looking at it.

I enjoyed this tour of your get away Ro. I was especially thrilled to see that whale! I think husbands all around the world experience the thrill of traveling studios and purchases a bit awkward for the car. Bless their hearts!

How wonderful to have wild lorikeets feeding from your hands! Glad you had a break in such a beautiful setting .... even though you did take your work with you. We have also just got back from a few days away and were so thrilled to see whales jumping and blowing daily.

That post was worth waiting for Ro. Loved all the pics especially that rainbow, the whale and the parakeets.
My DH can't understand why I need to take loads of stuff to 'do' on holiday either :)

Sounds as if you had a very productive holiday and in such glorious surroundings. The house itself is stunning and in such a beautiful location. Love the lorikeets, they are so tame. The double rainbow is spectacular and I love the reflection of the clouds in the water as well as your 'art' photos. Thankyou for sharing it all with us.

Ro, what a fantastic vacation you have been on and thanks so so much for sharing. Is it me or are the colours there just so much more THERE???

Love the Lorikeets! And I would love to see a whale smack the water really good and proper, just once, in person.
That house is great and the room you were in extra nice!
Take care and glad you're up and going again.

Oh, fabulous, Ro, so this is what you left the UK for,
:-), well who wouldn't , I couldn't be more more envious as we go into winter and our wonderful grey days, yuk!!!
Thanks so much for a wonderful post.
My DH takes twice as much camera gear as my art stuff when we go away, so he doesn't have a leg to stand on , I think I'll take the machine next time.

Wow, Ro! This house is superb! We have similar beach houses here in the States, but they are not as modern-looking as this one. I love the colors of the interior. Your beach is gorgeous, too. And the whale..wow.
I was on vacation in the mountains at the same time as you. I posted photos of that last week.

Wow, Ro, beautiful shots of your holiday location, they're just picture perfect! Looks like a lovely getaway for you both. I'd have to take the portable studio with me too! That's my idea of relaxation, arty play in that sort of a location! sigh!
