Welcome guest?
Sometime ago, some one emailed me, I can't remember who it was, asking if it was true we have huge spiders in Australia. Well here's a Huntsman spider we've had wandering around our bedroom for a couple of weeks now. He/she has been too high up for us to reach until today when it was resting on the window ledge. We try not to kill them as they are relatively harmless, so my husband, occasionally me, puts a container over them and relocates them outside.
The first photo shows the underside and you can see the quite large fangs. Sometimes they rear up at you, I think they're the females, they don't always make it to the outside world, if they show me aggression. That's my husband's hand holding the container so it gives you an indication of the size.
More art next post.

Now that's the only thing I did NOT miss about Australia after my visit.....not a pleasant experience coming face to face with these!lol
Eeewwwww! Gives me the shivers! We have big 'ol white ones here in Colorado that have me running in the other direction when I see them. I'm a spider woosie!
Creepy! Our big ones are midgets comparing to that fellow! I can't kill them either .. but living a few weeks with a big one like that ??? ewwwwwwwwwww ! lol
Isn't it beautiful! Great close up photo. We only have small and mostly harmless spiders over here. I don't know if I'd like to meet one of these unexpectedly though.
Gaaaahhhhh! No likey the big spidey. I carry them outside too but I can't say I like them.
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG
can't bare to even look at those - I'm running away real fast!!!! LOL
And I thought I wanted to visit someday. Ha!
ANY size makes me uncomfortable. At least this one you can see.
I think you should add some color to him, Ro.
yikes...i am not usually afraid of spiders...but this one may cause a change...blessings, rebecca
OMG! If I had a spider like that in my bedroom, I'd never sleep until I was absolutely sure it was GONE - and I wouldn't be the one to remove it either!!!
Samara would be freaking out at this!!
I too, like to collect them and relocate them, but I have an aversion to them jumping towards me, which Huntsmen have a habit of doing when threatened! They usually end up on the bottom of my shoe! Quick reflexes!! LOL!
Whoa! Gorgeous artwork & hideous fuzzy creepy spiders...Your blog really has it all! :)
It was me. And I took a workshop with Sally Jean yesterday and sat across from a woman who lives in Melbourne. She is from Michigan, like me. She said that huntsmen scare her to death and her driveway is under a gum tree where she believes they like to live. Anyway, she was driving down the highway and two appeared on the dash and began running around. ugh. I would have spun off the road.
I agree with Steph I wouldn't be able to kill them because at that size they are like pets...albeit ugly ones. :>)
