'Ancient' quilt

I've worked like crazy over the past two days, tearing up fabric strips, laying and pinning the design out, all ready to take in the car with me for our two hour trip to visit friends on New Years Eve. All in vain, my husband came down with a very nasty chest infection, causing the cancellation of our planned trip. Alas we had a very quiet celebration at home which enabled me to complete the preliminary stitching of the quilt. I'll probably leave it for awhile to decide what additional stitching or embellishment I'll add to it. I was pleased with the 'aged ' look of the fabrics. I might even add very old linen buttons here and there.

The torn strips waiting to be assembled.

Pinned and waiting for stitching.

A close up of some of the stitching.

Now waiting for more stitching or embellishment. It's about the size of a cushion.

I'll be teaching a workshop from home in February on gelatine printing, so if you're interested
please email me for details.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

have a very Happy, Healthy and Creative 2011

Love the quilt! Sorry about your husband's illness. Have fun with the gelatin printing. I found it to be one of the most fun art projects I've done. I still have printed paper to use up in a project. Maybe this holiday weekend! Happy new year!

So sorry your husband is ill - the cold/flu bugs seem to be global - our son had one just before Christmas and our son-in-law has been ill since Boxing Day. I love the vintage look of your quilt - the subtle colours are beautiful. Hope 2011 will bring happiness and good health to you and yours.

I love the ethereal and worn subtlety of your design here. Whenever I see this sort of stitching it inspires me to add that medium to my repertoire.
Just lovely.

I love the looks of this work. I've never done any gelatine printing but now I'm looking around for lace to use. This is absolutely inspiring.
Well wishes for your husband and I hope it'll pass you. Take care and have a good 2011

Oh, Ro, this is wonderful. It's so pretty and detailed and perfectly squared, I think. That's a LOT of work! It looks like something one can become completely absorbed in and even addicted to! (speaking for myself, of course)

Happy New Year! And may your class be a rousing success.
