Latest pages

These are my journal pages for the past two days. I ended up taking my journal with me to a cafe today and worked on the pages, it's a great time to catch up with journaling and very relaxing.

I love adding decorations to the sides of the pages.

These are nasturtiums that were in the garden at the Heidi gallery.
I add a few of my stamps for decoration and more words for my goals for 2011

This is a beautiful native plant we have growing in our garden, I don't know it the berries are edible.
It has very long leaves similar to a flax plant.

The photo and the sketch.

Hi Ro, Karen from Brisbane here, I really enjoy your blog... I think that those berries are from a blue flax lily, I don't think they are poisonous but I do know they make a lovely mauve/blue dye when boiled up - I have used them for this having pre-boiled some silk in salt solution. You need quite a few tho. Cheers, Karen

Ro, I simply love this layout you are using. The beautiful edges bring the eye straight into center, to enjoy your sketches and photos. I want to go right to my sketchbook and try it.

I am following what is happening everyday down there and praying that mother nature calms herself down soon.

Last but not least, thank you so much for your always encouraging comments. I have so appreciated your artful friendship for the past few years. You were one of the first.

xo Karen

I have been lurking for quite some time, but thought I would finally comment. I suppose it is the challenge of naming that plant! I am basically certain that it is a plant called Dianella.

These pages are beautiful!

Love your sketching Ro...this new style of journalling is wonderful. I think this new lifestyle is suiting you... cafes, sketching, sounds perfect to me.
When Norma and I were holidaying at Lakes Entrance we took our journals and sketched. I must admit I was a bit self conscious at first, but it was fun and lovely to look back on.

Lovely pages, yes the blue berries are from a native dianella species, dont know which one, and as Karen says is known as blue flax lily. I have several, some have larger berries than others, must try using them to dye with. dont think eating blue berries would be a good idea, our old poison bottles were always blue.

Hi again Ro, thanks for your comment. Yes the clean up is amazing, it is like a war zone outside my house, complete with the army! People have been incredible, so many volunteers helping to clean up.
Re the dying using the flax lily, you can save them up in the freezer and then boil when you have enough. I blogged about it awhile ago: http://travelswithlil.blogspot.com/2010/11/alchemy.html. I come from Victoria, lived in Cockatoo in 1983! Understand the fear of bush-fires, now I understand the fear of flood too! All the best, Karen
