The Pulse

Some time ago I and a wonderful group of other artists were invited by the amazing Seth Apter, from The Altered Page blog, to submit photos of our art and answer some very interesting questions. Unfortunately it was around the time my Mother was very ill and subsequently passed away, so I didn't get to submit my work. The book has now been released and I was very honoured when Seth invited me, along with the artists following, to comment on his book and to answer three of his original questions that he put to the artists.

This truly is a great book and gives a wonderful insight into some of the artists, we as bloggers know, and also the chance to meet some new artists whose work I've not seen before. I love the format of the book and spent some time drooling over the images of so many different artist's work. Many of the answers to the questions are very entertaining too. It's lovely to see some fellow Aussies made it into the
book. I'm certainly going to enjoy putting my feet up over Easter and having a good read.

Here are my answers to three of Seth's questions

Is creativity built-in, learned, or both?
As far as I'm concerned, I came into this world with a paint brush, a needle and thread and jeweller's saw in my hands. I was rearing to go from day one, so for me it was definitely built-in.

Do you enjoy working more intuitively or by carefully thinking through your process?

Once I have an idea about a project I'm about to start, it's green lights all the way, there's no time to stop and plan, I'm off and running. This can have mixed results but usually works more often than not.

What do you think your preferred art medium says about your personality?

I work with so many different mediums, but they all seem to end up saying, 'she's colour crazy and is still a hippy at heart'.

Thanks Seth for a wonderful book and for doing so much for the art community, and to help get the word out there, that art really is a great way to communicate.

Here are the other artists who also have some great things to say.

I'm so glad you got to get your words out here about and in answer to Seth's book questions.

It's validating to learn that it's okay to just let fly with an idea, as that is how I work too. You do it SO WELL!!!

From one old hippie to another, you already know I think that I adore all of your art pieces!

(Ro, I'm so sorry to learn now about your loss of your mom...please accept my belated condolences)

Hello Ro, I was lucky enough to buy some of your gorgeous fabric not long ago. Via Seth I have come across your blog which is as great as I expected. As another Aussie I was proud to see so many in Seth's book, it is wonderful to see artists from everywhere being recognised.

Had to laugh Ro that you were practically born with a jeweller's saw in your hand. I'm trying to take it up at nearly 70! Love your blog and as an Australian proud to see so many included in Seth's book.
