Sketchbook class

I've had a few of my group ask if I could start a Sketchbook class. I decided rather than hold a workshop I'd form a sketchbook group where we meet for an afternoon at my house and everyone progresses at their own pace. I've had such a great response I've had to generate a weekday and a weekend group. Each will meet once a month, but it may develop into fortnightly get togethers depending on the response.
I've started to sort through some of my sketch books for reference and it was very interesting go back and see some of these.

I use an old ledger for some of my preliminary sketches. I often paint a wash for a background then work over the top, this eliminates the dreaded white page.

This same book also provides a testing place for my stamps.

You can see how I avoid using a white page. This is a photo album which works really well with uni-posca markers.

Another page in the album.

These are more pages in my latest book, I've finally accepted white pages.

If you care to join our sketching group just send me an email for details.

The top daisy design would be great on a filmy sarong. Love the "testings" on the black page too.

Your pages are so colorful! I wish I could join your sketchbook class, but I'm a few oceans away from you! Maybe you could do an online class sometime...

If I was the right side of the world I'd sign up like a shot. Your sketchbook and album pages are a joy to see and will be so inspiring to your ladies. I know they'll all have a great time with you.

I love looking back at old art journals - they are a great reference and sometimes a bit of a surprise when you realise how far you have moved on from an original idea. It is great to revisit them. I like all your work here but I must say those minarets are especially intriguing - would make a great relief print!

Vibrant, colorful and wonderful! LOVE your journal pages, Ro!!! Love the results of the Posca pens on the black photo paper too. So dramatic. The color just "pops". Wish I weren't 1/2 way across the world. I'd LOVE to sit in on your class! Hugs, Terri xoxox

The black background works really well Ro - the perfect foil for your intense palette, providing a flat matte background, allowing the vibrancy to magnify.

I am smiling this huge smile. Our posts are somehow in harmony. Color or black and white, sketching is a great way to help one loosen up the creative muscles.

I haven't forgotten the email regarding the silk and glue. Promise.

..and by the way, I would welcome a visit anytime. :-)...providing I am home of course.

I used to think sketching could only be on a pristine white page of a recognisable object, then I discovered stitching, mixed media & textiles thru w/s & CPS & blogging & realised it didn't have to be! I look back at my squares books with such, well, pride really & will be sketching right along with you ;)Thanks for the peek.
